Ashwani Lohani is a veteran bureaucrat, aviation leader, and turnaround specialist with over four decades of experience across transport and tourism. A retired officer of the Indian Railway Service of Mechanical Engineers (1980 batch), he has held top leadership roles including Chairman & Managing Director of Air India—on two occasions—and Chairman of the Railway Board. Known as the “turnaround man,” he steered Air India through some of its most challenging phases and led reforms in Indian Railways such as the Vande Bharat trains and freight corridors. Post-retirement, he served as CEO of GMR Group, strengthening its airport and aviation portfolio, and earlier led ITDC and Madhya Pradesh Tourism Development Corporation. A multi-disciplinary engineer with four degrees, he also features in the Limca Book of Records and Guinness Book of World Records for his engineering and aviation-related achievements.
