Dr. Duvvuri Subbarao

Biography

Duvvuri Subbarao is a distinguished economist and policy expert with over 30 years of experience in public service. He served as the 22nd Governor of the Reserve Bank of India (2008–2013), steering the institution through the global financial crisis and critical domestic economic transitions. Prior to that, he was India’s Finance Secretary and Secretary to the Prime Minister’s Economic Advisory Council. Subbarao also held the position of Lead Economist at the World Bank, where he advised developing countries on public finance reforms. An alumnus of IIT Kanpur, he earned advanced degrees from Ohio State University, MIT, and Andhra University. A respected thought leader on macroeconomic governance, he has authored two notable books: Who Moved My Interest Rate? and Just a Mercenary (2024). Following his RBI tenure, he served as a Visiting Fellow at the National University of Singapore and the University of Pennsylvania, contributing to global economic policy discourse.
