Dr. S.Y. Quraishi

Biography

Dr. S. Y. Quraishi is a former Chief Election Commissioner of India and the 17th CEC, serving from July 2010 to June 2012. A 1971-batch IAS officer, he held several senior positions in the Government of India, including Secretary, Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports. He has extensive expertise in democracy, elections, public policy, governance, social marketing and development communication. He contributed significantly to voter education and electoral reforms and is the author of An Undocumented Wonder: The Making of the Great Indian Election. Dr. Quraishi was featured in The Indian Express list of 100 Most Powerful Indians in 2011 and 2012. Widely respected as a development thinker, he is known for inclusive leadership and bringing diverse groups and institutions together toward common development objectives. He has represented India at numerous international conferences and dialogues.
